Texas DSHS:
Folic Acid PSA

The challenge: make serious medical information approachable, memorable, and engaging.

 

DSHS needed an animated video series to reach younger women who may be unaware of folic acid’s health benefits—both for themselves and future pregnancies.

Swng was brought on to concept and produce the series, teaming up with animator Reid Hildebrand to bring personality and warmth to complex topics. Reid’s expressive, inclusive characters—featuring a range of body types and skin tones—helped ensure representation and relatability. Cori Baker wrote scripts that struck a balance between informative and upbeat, avoiding typical PSA dryness.

To localize the campaign, we incorporated Houston’s skyline and Texas-inspired decor. We produced one 90-second video and two 30-second versions, each in English and Spanish, for a total of six deliverables. The videos were tested in both languages with WIC participants and performed exceptionally well.

Displayed in clinics across the state, the final campaign delivered on tone, message clarity, and cultural relevance—earning high marks from both the client and its audience.
